Show/Hide Hierarchy "+/-" buttons

I am converting our "classic" reports to new reports and in that relation I would like to ask where I can hide the "+/-" buttons in the new reports.

In the "classic" reports these buttons were not shown in a cross-tab, but in the new reports I struggle to find out where to hide them.

Since the reports are meant to be scheduled and sent out as PDF files, it makes little sense for the buttons to take up valuable space inside the cross-tab objects.

  • Just to be sure - the "+/-" are not printed when creating the PDF, but the space is still taken up.

    From the client

From the PDF - the members are left-aligned but the space is still "wasted" on the page.

  • Hi Rasmus,

I just did a quick test, but did not see the same issue. The +/- does not take up space in my PDF output.

I can think of a couple of reasons why it might do it with your data:

    • You have used 'Autofit' on the crosstab in the report.
    • You have, at some point, double-clicked the column dividers to get them to minimum size in Design mode. This size will then be locked - also in the PDF output.

Alternative solution: Use the 'Hierarchy display' option (right-click crosstab) to reduce the space taken up by your hierarchy columns.

In this example (PDF output), the top table is exported with default settings (no auto-fit, no column resize). Note that there is no wasted space in the Year column, where there would otherwise have been a '-'.

The bottom table has been formatted with 'Hierarchy Display'.

  • Thanks for the answer, I will test further.

It is highly likely that I have used both of those options you mention. How do I undo those?

  • Hi Rasmus,

I don't think it is possible to do undo it, once you have done either autofit or manual fit.
