What is required to expose TargIT Anywhere on the intranet?

We would like to expose some analyses through the internet (information screens that are not inside our domain but do have internet access). What is required to do so?

We do not have a TargIT Cloud solution.

  • Hi Rasmus,

If the purpose is to expose dashboards on information screens, without end-user interaction, then you do not need to use the Anywhere client.

Instead, you should consider the Scheduled Publishing option that will allow you to produce HTML pages, or even animated slideshows, of dashboards - on information screens that are capable of running HTML pages.

    See this article: https://community.targit.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017863338-Scheduled-Publishing

  • Hi Ole,

Thanks for the suggestion, it looks to be exactly what we need.

We do need to access it from outside our internal domain and I have no experience working with TargIT across the internet. Is it possible to somehow expose a link on the internet that can display this internal link? What are the security considerations - would the validation of users be handled by whatever is linking to the internal published TargIT link?

  • Hi Rasmus,

The published pages will become a physical HTML resource on the TARGIT Server. These HTML pages can be reached by a URL. It is a job for your IT department to decide how to access these resources from externally. Your IT may also choose to set up automated processes to move these resources away from the TARGIT Server to e.g., an already externally accessible web server.

Note, as mentioned in the linked article: If your Anywhere server is accessible from the internet - this content will also be accessible for anyone with the correct URL.

With regard to user authentication/validation it is important to know that no validation is taking place when accessing these URLs. In the article it says: End-users are not authenticated when browsing the HTML output. I.e. everyone with access to the URL will see the same content.

  • Thanks for the explanation, Ole.

The solution seems to be a perfect fit for our use case.

  • Ole, when I try to create a job for a dashboard - I don't get the option to select HTML at all. Is there some requirement that I am overlooking?

  • Hi Rasmus,

Sorry, maybe I should have mentioned from the beginning...

The Scheduled Publishing and scheduling of Dashboards are both something that requires the Enterprise Distribution license. The Enterprise Distribution license is an addon to your standard license. Please get in touch with your TARGIT AM to get at a quote for the Enterprise Distribution license.
