TARGIT Client - Manage Server

What determines if the "Manage Server" button appears in the bottom right corner of the login dialog?

On a client Windows Machine (not the TARGIT Server), I can create a shortcut as follows that opens Management connected to the servername...

C:\Program Files (x86)\TARGIT\Client Installer\TARGIT.exe" "targit://servername/managethis

I can also create a shortcut that opens TARGIT desktop connected to a particular server.

However, if I open the default TARGIT shortcut in the start menu from a client machine, I don't see the "Manage Server" button.

I saw https://community.targit.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017096097-Management-client-shortcut
Does this imply that the "Manage Server" button below only appears when the client is running on a TARGIT server?

  • Hi Karl,

Maybe your users are missing the 'Management client to manage server' allowance in the Rights settings?

  • Good thought Ole, but I'm not sure it would apply here since the little gear icon is in the bottom right of the dialog box (or is not) before you even specify a server, username, or password.

Based upon my experience, it only appears in the default client login dialog on machines where the server components are installed, but was just curious how to get it to show up on any machine.

My custom shortcut with targit://servername/managethis works, implying that the user(s) involved do have the ability to manage the service.

Not a big deal, just a curiosity.  I had a user questioning why the option exists in the regular login dialog some places, but not others.

  • Hi Karl,

You are right. So I examined a bit further.

It is controlled by a Registry setting:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\TARGIT\Client
    • CanManage = 1

And, yes, I think it is something that is only set to '1' if you install server components as well.

  • Awesome.  I just tested it on a machine that only had the client and it worked!

Thanks for looking into this Ole.  As I said, not a major issue, but just bugged me that I couldn't figure it out.
