Hide blank columns

If my memory doesn't fail me ... in the olden days, info attribute columns with all blanks were hidden (I sometimes used character 160 to force them to be shown). This seems to no longer be the case. The "feature" was probably perceived as a "bug" and fixed, but it's actually quite useful to be able to hide empty/blank (info) attribute columns in certain scenarios.

  • Hi Søren,

To process this feature request, we need a more detailed description. What is an 'info attribute column'? In addition, can you provide screenshots/mockups to help us better understand what your request is about?

  • Hi Ole,

I'm not sure if "info attribute" is the correct term, but it's these ones (hidden dimension attributes that tag along the key attribute):

If I in the olden days used the [Item].[No] dimension as the main dimension with, say, "Cut Down" and "Family" as info attributes and "Family" had nothing but blanks, then the "Family" column would not be shown.

To force the "Family" column to be shown, I would create a "Family 0160" field in the underlying dimension table where nulls and blanks were replaced by the 0160 character (a hard blank that's different from the normal blank = 0032) and add that field as a hidden dimension attribute alongside the normal "Family" attribute.

Normally it's great to show all columns but in very wide tables that require horizontal scrolling, it can be nice to only show those columns where at least one line has a non-blank value.

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks, Søren
