Source Data Cube

Hi Bo,

TARGIT picks the default cube based upon cube information that is stored in the document's xml file.

I did some testing on the latest version (2021 Summer) and was able to tweak the default cube by changing the cube name in this string:

<metadata database="DemoData" cube="Inventory"/>

Please notice that the cube name may appear multiple times in the xml file, and probably should be changed everywhere. There is something called a <default cube> tag in the xml file, but I found that in the 2021 Summer version, at least, this tag did not have any effect - instead I had to change the cube name in the <data> section. This is something that may have changed from previous versions - so depending on your version, you may need different approaches.

What version are you using? Also It would be interesting to know how you did the initial conversion.

Thanks for the answer.

We are using 2021.0 build 19194. We have created a Tabular model cube in a new data warehouse, so now Targit have a connection to the old and new, as to not break some of the currently in use analysis and reports. The actual conversion of the different analysis and reports are done by recreating the ones needed.

In the majority of cases, I believe the problem arise if a designer uses the old analysis and deletes the old cross tables and creates new ones. However I have also seen that the source data change in reports or dashboards which were newly created, though very rarely.

We are going to close the old data warehouse down in the future so at that but I am suspecting that it will be fixed, however until then I am afraid some people will continue to use the old cube data for making personal reports---which will then break when we close the old down.

Ok. I can see that there is a huge risk that remnants of the old cube still exists in the XML file if just replacing crosstabs in the old documents. For instance, when deleting the old crosstab, it will at first just be moved to "Unused objects" in the Object list, but they still exist in the XML file. To completely remove them, they should be removed the Unused objects list as well.

You could try this to see if that is a quick fix in your case.

Otherwise, my recommendation is still to look through the XML file and search/replace the cube names. Of course, do backups and thorough testing first... :-)
