Compatibility of SQL Server 2022 in TARGIT

At the Targit Copatibility Overview vor relational an multidimensional databases and Targit Releases there is still no entry for SQL Server 2022. I need to know what versions are compatible for SQL Server 2022. We have a release of our software which works in many installations together with TARGIT 2019 Update 3 right now.

Will TARGIT 2019 Update 3 be compatible with SQL Server 2022 or is it sure that this will not be supported or even testet?

  • Hi Carsten and Thomas.

Thank you for your input. We will work on getting our Compatibility overview articles updated asap.

So far I can tell that TARGIT 2022 is compatible with Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11.

  • And another update: TARGIT 2019 Update 3 has been specifically tested ok with SQL Server 2022 (on a Windows Server 2022).

  • Hi Thomas,

Currently we have no short term plans for developing BIA / Custom SSIS tasks for SQL Server 2022.

  • Hi Thomas,

We are currently investigating options with regard to BIA / Custom SSIS tasks for SQL Server 2022.

In the meantime, it should be possible to move an existing BIA data warehouse to an SQL 2022 Server. The SSIS package may not run in the SQL 2022 environment (due to the incompatible Custom SSIS tasks) - however, the SSIS package may be kept running in an SQL 2019 instance on the same server, and feed data into the new SQL 2022 data warehouse.

  • Hi Thomas

Can you specify which tasks you currently are using?

Period table, Quality check, Enumeration - or other?

  • Hi Niels,

    thanks for caring!

We are using the "standard" BIA tasks you mentioned!

    Kind regards

  • hi again

I just tried to install the 2019 custom task and later run a very small job that utilized the period table task and delivered a period table in a database in a 2022 SQL Server instance?

Have you tried to install the 2019 version of the custom tasks manually and then move your etl script to the SQL 2022 instance?

  • I have created a little guide on how to use the 'TARGIT Custom SSIS Tasks for Microsoft SQL Server 2019' in a SQL Server 2022 environment: https://community.targit.com/hc/en-us/articles/9066113652253-TARGIT-Custom-SSIS-Tasks-package

  • Hi Ole,

thanks for this workaround. Does this mean, TARGIT doesn't develop a BIA solution for SQL 2022?

    Kind regards

    Thomas.

  • Hi Thomas

This is still up for discussion - will get back to you on that.

As I see it, it will be possible to upgrade customers with the knowledge Ole has provided - do you agree?

  • As I see, the update of an existing BIA BC customer is possible, but I'm in doubt if this approach works for new customers/installations ..

  • More on this:

We upgraded the Custom SSIS package.

So now you can install it directly in a SQL 2022 deployment environment.

The new "TARGIT Custom SSIS task for Microsoft SQL Server 2022" is available in the TARGIT Download Center, in "Other downloads".
