Migration to a new server

This article contains a checklist of steps to take when you need to migrate a running TARGIT installation from an old server to a new server.

  1. Obtain a new license, similar to the existing license, from your TARGIT Account Manager to be used on the new server.
  2. Install TARGIT Decision Suite on the new server.
    1. Initially, install the same version as the version currently running on the old server. Later, it can be upgraded to the latest version, if necessary.
    2. During the installer, use the obtained license and make sure to install the same components as on the old server.
    3. Specify other drive if C: is not used.
  3. Open Firewall ports as specified in this article: Firewall access
    1. Note: Default port for Analysis Services is 2383 and 2382
  4. If dedicated Service Users have been specified on the old server for TARGIT Server and/or for TARGIT Data Service, make sure the same Service Users are specified on the new server.
  5. Before proceeding, check that this clean installation is running as expected.
    1. Open the Windows Designer client and check that everything is working as expected.
    2. If Anywhere is installed, open the browser based Anywhere client and check that everything is working as expected.
  6. Copy folders from old server and paste/overwrite on new server:
    1. C:\Program Files\TARGIT\ANTServer
    2. If Data Discovery is installed: C:\Program Files\TARGIT\TARGIT Data Service
  7. Open TARGIT Management client and go to Connections to check server names of existing database connections and correct it where necessary. Pay special attention to the DataService connection.
  8. Restart the TARGIT Server service.
  9. Verify that everything is running as expected.
  10. Close down the old server. However, if the old server and the new server is running in parallel for a limited period, make sure that:
    1. Stop Scheduled jobs on the old server - otherwise people will receive duplicated outputs.
    2. If Insights is installed, disable Insights on the old server.
