Note: AI Forecasting for Designer users and Consumer users in the Windows client and in the Anywhere client is only available to Cloud based TARGIT solutions.
TARGIT provides AI-powered forecasting capabilities for your data within TARGIT clients. To access the forecasting feature, the Designer user must first enable it before the Consumer user can initiate it.
Requirements
Forecasting can only be enabled for crosstabs, and only under the following conditions:
- The crosstab must have a Time dimension on the vertical axis.
- Supported Time dimension formats are:
- Year (Y)
- Year-Month (YM)
- Year-Month-Day (YMD)
- The crosstab must also contain at least one measure.
- Optionally, additional dimensions on the horizontal axis can be included to forecast individual data series.
Designer user: Enabling forecasts
Once the conditions are met, the Designer user can enable AI forecasting from the Properties Smartpad:
- Enable consumer forecasting: This option allows Consumer users to initiate forecasting. Note that forecasting cannot be initiated in Designer mode.
- Periods to Forecast: Generally, to forecast X periods, your historical data should contain at least twice as many periods.
- Absolute Forecasting Limits:
- Years: 2-year maximum
- Months: 12-month maximum
- Days: 31-day maximum
Consumer user: Initiating forecasts
Once AI forecasting is enabled for a crosstab, Consumer users can initiate forecasting by selecting the option in the object toolbar:
The forecasted periods will be added to the crosstab, and the results will be displayed:
To remove the forecast, simply click the Cancel Forecast button:
Forecasting accuracy
To achieve more accurate forecasting results, provide as much historical data as possible.
Additionally, minimize the number of outliers in your historical data to improve accuracy.
Click the Information button on the forecasted crosstab for details on the current forecasting accuracy:
Note: Each time the crosstab is refreshed—whether by the Refresh button, changes in criteria, or expanding/collapsing—an updated AI forecasting model is processed. Expect the results to vary with each refresh, even if no changes are made to the dashboard.
