Wrong interpretation of dates in Data Discovery and how to fix it

Sometimes dates are not recognized - or maybe even worse misinterpreted, and we have to fix it before the dates are stored correctly in Data Discovery.

This data source looks straight forward - but Data Discovery can still get it wrong;

Notie that the first rows in the expected column makes it impossible to determine if we are talking about mm-dd-yyyy or dd-mm-yyyy.

Because of this - the dates are misinterpreted by data discovery when we add it as a data source.

To make sure that Data Discovery interprets the dates correctly - you should right click the data source and choose column types.

Now we need to type in the date pattern to make sure that the dates are understood:

This is done for both Expected and Actual columns.

Now we have a data source that interprets the dates correctly.
