Copy paste documents between client and file system

[Cloud release: 2024.05.01]
[On-prem release: 2024 April]
[On-prem build: 24.05.03003]

It is possible to copy and paste dashboards, reports and other document and file types between the TARGIT Designer client's Start menu and a local file system.

This is useful, e.g., if search and replace operations are required for multiple files from the Shared folder. The search and replace operation can then be performed on the files outside of the TARGIT server, before being copied back to their original position. In cloud environments you do not have access to the TARGIT Server's file system

  • CTRL+C and CTRL+V works in both directions
  • Right click and copy/paste from the context menu works in both directions
  • Drag and drop only works when dragging from the file system and dropping in the Start menu

If the file(s) already exists, you will be prompted to overwrite, to skip or to cancel:

The following file types can be copied into the client:

  • Analyses (dashboards, reports, .xview)
  • Menus
  • Slideshows
  • Templates
  • Bookmarks
  • PDF
  • Excel
  • CSV
  • XML
  • PNG
  • JPG/JPEG
  • BMP
  • HtmlZip
  • Pptx

Note: These events are audit logged, making it possible to track when and by whom the operation was performed. The audit logging is only in effect for Cloud solutions - not for TARGIT On-prem solutions. The audit logging data is not accessible directly by the TARGIT user or administrator. You will need to contact your TARGIT Account Manager to get access to audit logging data.

Note: Settings and configurations for e.g., User dimensions, Shared colors, Translations, etc., cannot be copied with this feature.

TARGIT's Command line tool can also perform copy/paste operations between a remote server and a local client. See this article: Command Line Tool: Targit.Commander.exe

  • Hi,

how can I see these logs, as described? Is it only possible on the Server Filesystem, or is there a way to see it inside of the Client?

  • Hi Marc,

I have clarified the text regarding audit logging.

The audit logging is only in effect for Cloud solutions - not for TARGIT On-prem solutions. The audit logging data is not accessible directly by the TARGIT user or administrator. You will need to contact your TARGIT Account Manager to get access to audit logging data.
