The Area map will let you display data on a map image with filled areas.
Example:
The image type for Area maps must be of the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) type. This type of graphics can work with vectorized areas that can be identified by a name or an ID.
To associate dimension members, e.g., from a Country dimension, with the image, you may first define the mapping type in the Locations tab of the Map chart dialog.
You may need to configure the From Column and the Map Element settings. In above example, the id in the SVG image contains strings that matches the dimension member names.
Note: Try out the Automap feature before defining the Mapping type. Often, this will handle the required mapping, making the Mapping type settings unnecessary.
Occasionally, one or more of your dimension members are not mapped correctly. This may happen if there is a mismatch between the dimension member name and the id/name in the SVG file. To handle this situation, you can manually drag the 'area button' from the dimension member list to the correct area in the preview map.
In this example, Spain has not been mapped, and the 'area button' is about to be dragged into Spain on the preview map:
