Maps - overview

The 'Map' object type can be used to display data on a background image, e.g., a World map or a Country map.

However, map images are not limited to geographical maps, but can be any image type, e.g., shopping center floorplans, organization diagrams etc.

Maps can be configured as two general types of maps, either Area maps or Dot maps.

Area maps

The Area map type works with filled areas. This map type requires the map image to be of the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) type.

Dimension values, e.g., countries, are associated with the corresponding vector areas in the map.

Dot maps

The Dot map type can use any map image types, including SVG, JPG, BMP etc.

Dimension values are either manually placed as dots on the map, or their positions are automatically configured by latitude and longitude values.

Furthermore, a Dot map may be converted to a Heat map.
