Defining Dimensions

When the essential part of the Data Model, the table relations, has been done, it is time to look into how to create some dimensions.

When you create a dimension, you will initially add it to the general Dimensions folder. This folder will act as a dimensions repository when you later add some or all of these dimensions to one or more cubes.

To define a simple dimension with a single attribute, you can drag the relevant field from the table to the Dimensions folder:

To add an extra attribute to the same dimension, you can drag another field from one of the tables to an already existing dimension:

Note: In older versions (prior to the 2024 June version), the initial dimensions folder was called 'Shared dimensions'. Also, you could not add multiple attributes to the same dimension - all attributes were to be created as 'single level' hierarchies.

  • How do you create folders with dimensions under Shared Dimensions?

I dragged and dropped the fields from my new Dim table but I want them organized in 1 folder.

  • I figured it out.
I created a folder by entering a name in the Display folder field option.
