You can add global, dynamic criteria directly from the Criteria Bar.
Typically, most time dimensions will be able to work with dynamic criteria from the criteria bar. However, the time dimension needs to be enabled for dynamic options first. See this section: Dynamic Time Setup, or this article: Dynamic Time set up in InMemory
For a time dimension that has been enabled for dynamic criteria, once the dimension has been added to the criteria bar, you will see two tabs on top of the dropdown list:
- Dynamic - for dynamic criteria, like 'Year to date'. Previous 12 months', etc.
- Static - for static criteria, like '2024', '2025 January 01'. etc.
When you apply a dynamic criteria, it will by default refer to the servers system date. E.g., if you ask for data for 'Previous month' and the servers system date is 14th February 2025, then you will get data for all of January 2025. If the dashboard is saved with the 'Previous month' dynamic criteria and later reopened - e.g., on the 20th April 2025, it will then show data for all of March 2025.
When working with Dynamic Criteria, your Criteria Smartpad will contain a 'Dynamic date origin'.
By default, the Dynamic date origin will show today's date. However, you can change the date to simulate a different "today". All dynamic criteria in your dashboard will be relative to this date.
Note: You can also add the 'Dynamic date origin' to your Criteria bar, if you prefer. Right click the Criteria bar to add it.
